Great coat, but way too big

I bought a medium (my size) and it was twice as large as I thought it would be. So I bought a small, washed and tumble dried it for quite a while, and the small fits me. The small one fits great and looks really good, so overall I'm pleased. Just not with the medium-I think there should be something that says size down if you want a normal size, instead of extra roomy fit.
